Introduction .:

Here are some case studies of software projects I have worked on.

NHS Highland .:

NHS Highland, Raigmore Hospital is an acute general hospital in Inverness.

Project: Clinic Builder

Since 2001, Raigmore Hospital has co-ordinated an Aortic Aneurysm screening programme in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Run by John Duncan at the Department of General Surgery, the programme is supported by the Clinic Builder system which I developed whilst working at Foremost IT.

Comprising a web front-end to an Oracle back-end, the system administers clinic and patient information and interfaces with Microsoft Word to facilitate the production of letters to patients and their GPs.

The system also includes a suite of reports used by the hospital to analyse the programme's effectiveness.

I was involved at all stages of the project, which took 7 months to complete, and has been in production since 2001.

First Milk .:

First Milk is a leading player in the UK dairy industry, with over 3,600 dairy farm members producing 2.3 billion litres of milk each year.

Project: Haulier Scheduling

The Haulier Scheduling application was developed by Foremost IT to automate a number of manual processes performed each day by the Operations department in the company's Paisley office.

Data relating to milk production and customer requirements for a given date is fed into an Oracle database and the system's integrated faxing and emailing software is used to distribute this information to the various haulier firms across the country.

Web-based interfaces are provided to give users access to the relevant information, and to allow hauliers to submit data relating to actual milk collections and deliveries.

I was involved in all phases of this project which took 9 months to complete. This system has been in successful production since April 2002.

Mallory International .:

Mallory International is a leading British export bookseller based in Devon.

Project: AutoQuote

AutoQuote is an intelligent book quote automation application which was designed to turn an unstructured file of book or journal information into a formatted set of data to be included in a customer quotation. Information is pulled from various data sources, consolidated and imported into Excel.

I was involved in all phases of the project which is ongoing. Phase 1, which was begun in February 2004, went into production in April 2004. The savings to Mallory in terms of staff time have been substantial and new modules were subsequently added to provide support for journals and out of print publications.
